The Middle Update 6/17/21

I wanted to share a couple of brief updates to keep everyone in the loop about developments that typically take place over the summer....with this summer being no different.

-Construction is expected to start either today or tomorrow with demolition of the affected classrooms.  They should be done around early August.  Special thanks to our awesome custodial crew for all they do for our building!

-We wrapped up our Leaders of Learning book study last week, and we have a group of teachers ready to share their knowledge and put the takeaways into action as we head into next school year.  We'll be looking to improve the focus of teacher collaboration opportunities with more goal-oriented conversation surrounding specific teaching and learning practices that improve student learning.  I'm excited for the middle school leading the way in this area for our district.

-Summer School is off and running and we have a pretty nice turnout for middle schoolers and have some special teachers doing great work with these kids!  The skills (especially reading and math) of many of our students are growing as a result of these efforts!

-A tentative master schedule for next year can be found at this LINK.  I continue to work on getting everything rolling and up to date in Infinite Campus.  I am still waiting confirmation on the official start time for each school day next year....the draft will change as I learn of any changes to the start and end time.

-In the summer, we typically have a few positions that come available, and this summer is no different.  If you know of any potential great candidates that would be great additions to our team, please direct them to WECAN and give me a heads-up.  Positions are below:

-Elem./MS Physical Education (replace Mrs. Serstad), 7th/8th Science (replace Mrs. Mrnak)

-A couple of Long-Term Substitute jobs to begin the school year for 5th grade (Mrs. Wheeler) and MS Special Education (Mrs. Andringa)

-A couple of Paraprofessional Positions (replace Mr. Hackbart and Mrs. Hutchinson)

-We are looking to hire a new K-8 Associate Principal as well (Mrs. Morrissey's departure has led to a re-structuring of duties to support the work)

I sincerely hope your summer is off to a great start, and this time allows you to recharge, re-energize, and have us all ready to roll into next year.  I believe we are going to be set up to have the greatest year of student growth that we have ever seen at this school!
